E-Board Meeting

1. Project Updates

A. Uganda’s First Meeting:

I. 40 in attendance

II. Very long meeting

III. Applications for PL and Treasurer due Oct. 2.

IV. Meetings from 5:40-6:40

B. Ghana

I. Meeting on Monday from 9:30-10:30 in Hamilton 406

II. Explained the latrine to the new people.

C. India

I. Talked to the leader of the student group that they are working with.

II. This week we will look over the data they sent us.

III. Boeing Grant: India is looking for an extension on the grant.

D. Will any team be traveling over winter break?

I. Ghana would like to, but it is unlikely.

II. Uganda would like to travel more frequently.

III. Columbia wants 3 months advance notice.

2. Grant Writing Workshop

I. What do we need?

A. Each group needs to pick out SHORT grant applications!

II. Location: Lerner 501 will be too small. Book Hamilton 716, or 602 (one of the big rooms) so that EVERYONE can come!

3. Semesterly Newsletter

I. Interviews with EWB mentors

A. Interview all three, or just one?

B. Suggestion: Interview Teams’ Professional Advisors

II. Have “Where we’re headed” in addition to what we’ve done

III. Audience for Newsletter:

A. other groups on Campus

B. ABC sends us interviews

4. Contact SPEC

5. Panel With Elad

I. EWB Professional Chapter was worried that this event might have a more political angle, but they are willing to come to the event on campus instead of having two separate events.

6. Beyond Borders

I. had a meeting this week

A. Went over picture setting. Angela is thinking about what to do with such a big space.

II. Possibly a dance group/musical performance at the end.

7. EWB Regional Workshop

I. We can only afford to send 10, max. Howabout 6. 2 from each program. Find out interest.

II. Date: November 5, 6, 7

III. Hotel is $120/night.

E-Board Meeting 09/19/2010

In attendance: Sonal, Alison, Sarah, Dhristie, Kevin, Bethany, Bruce, Lucy

1. Study Abroad Programs

A. We were asked to have a table at the study abroad fair.

B. Fair is on Oct. 1. Sonal can do it. We are going to volunteer for it.

2. First Meetings

A. Uganda hasn’t met yet.

B. India met, Ghana has met twice.

3. India update from Dhristie!

A. Brief current members about what’s going on.

B. No new members yet.

C. Matt and Dhristie skype called the leader of the student group they are hoping to work with in Opal. Student is having trouble getting data about the area. He will have an area specified by the end of this week. Then we will start closing out our current program and starting a new one.

D. India needs to get the BOEING grant done.

E. They still need to get post-assessment report done from the winter 2010 trip. Matt is the only one doing it because he is the only one who traveled.

4. Uganda update from Alison

A. Had a meeting with the leads and travel teams.

B. Have had organizational difficulties within our project. We have two projects going on separately, recognized by EWB.

C. Talked about methods for persons applying for leadership positions. Trying to be more transparent.

i. Have an application filled out. What are you interested in? What makes you a good candidate? Your vision for applying for the position?

ii. Send out document to the entire program.

iii. Have members vote.

iv. The Eboard decides between the top few applicants.

v. This will only be for major positions.

5. Should individual projects have a treasurer/head fundraising lead?

A. Ghana has one member who keeps track of dates and researches more grants. This year’s seniors review all the grants.

B. How do we teach new members how to write grants?

i. Currently, older members teach the new members and make them do most of the writing.

ii. We could really use a grant writing workshop.

iii. Our Earth Institute person didn’t think she could compress grant writing into one hour.

iv. We should have our own EWB people giving a workshop. Free food.

v. Looking at past grants is a good way to learn.

C. Grant Reviewing Workshop: Looking at what is a good grant, and what is a badly written grant. Have all the groups submit grants that are good and bad. Pick the shortest 3 from each group. Note whether they got the grants. Go through and pick out what is good and what is bad about each grant. Less than 2 hours long.

D. We should have our grant writing work-shop ASAP! Set a FINAL date possible.

E. Shoot for the week of October 10th!

F. Fun and Informal! Hang out with those cool folks on the E-Board!

G. Grant Roast! And roast the E-Board!

H. It’ll be from 8-10 in Lerner Board Room 501.

6. New Member Orientation

A. Will be this Thursday, at 8 PM in Mudd 633.

B. Must have FOOD!

7. Meeting with our advisor, Tailisha, at 12 on Tuesday.

A. Kevin and Sonal attended Club Recharge.

B. New Procedures about getting events approved.

8. EWB Brochure Templates

A. E-Board: Send feedback!

9. Program Meeting Times

A. Uganda 5:30-6:30 in 834 Mudd

B. Ghana Wednesday at 8 in 403 Hamilton

10. Beyond Borders (November 19, Friday)

A. Very enthusiastic team!

B. First 30 minutes. Interactive tabling.

C. Have appetizers served at the table for people to eat while they are listening to the speaker.

D. Speakers: Marty Odin, bamboo bikes.

E. The last 50 minutes will be the buffet style dinner.

F. Have a music group playing the entire time

G. Have a EWB peoples spread out across the various tables and tell them to be friendly! Number tables and assign EWB members to the specific tables.

H. Guests: Regional EWB chapters.

11. New Conference Fund for the Dean

A. Apply individual.

12. EWB Regional Conference

A. E-Board will pay half of everything.
